THE RIGHT PROCESS FOR THE FINISH

Polish, compound
or wet sand?

Polishing and waxing

An already sound finish may need polishing to refresh the gloss, followed by wax. For gelcoat that is already glossy and needs a clean and fresh wax, see Wash N Wax and ongoing polish-and-wax care.

Oxidation removal and multi-stage correction

Dull, chalky gelcoat may need compounding before finer polishing. Buff N Shine includes surface preparation, compound correction, machine polishing and a protective finish. A test spot helps us assess the likely improvement and agree the scope.

Controlled wet sanding

Where compounding alone is insufficient, wet sanding may be an additional stage before correction and polishing. We assess the surface first and quote that work separately. The aim is an appropriate correction process for the condition of your boat.

Decal ghosting correction

Old lettering can leave visible outlines or colour differences in the surrounding gelcoat. We assess those differences before recommending removal, correction or sanding. Results depend on the finish; we explain what improvement is realistic after inspection.

THE RESTORATION PROCESS

Preparation to protection.

  1. 01

    Surface preparation

Clean and prepare the included surfaces, inspect their condition and confirm the process with a test spot.

  2. 02

    Compound correction

Compound the gelcoat to address oxidation and dullness, checking the finish as we work.

  3. 03

    Machine polish

Polish the corrected gelcoat to refine the gloss, then inspect it before applying protection.

  4. 04

    Protective finish

Apply the selected protective product, clean up any residue and complete a final inspection.

WHEN MORE WORK IS NEEDED

Wet sanding is assessed
and quoted separately.

Some surfaces need sanding before compounding and polishing. This additional stage costs + CI$25/ft for the entire boat or + CI$15/ft for hull-only work.

We use the surface assessment and test spot to determine whether sanding is needed. Any additional correction is discussed with you before it begins.

Decal removal and ghosting

Removing graphics can reveal differences in the underlying finish. Send photos of the decals or remaining shadows so we can assess the work and quote it separately.

RESTORATION QUESTIONS

See what’s possible first.

What is included in Buff N Shine?

Buff N Shine is our four-step gelcoat restoration package. It includes surface preparation, compound correction, machine polish and a protective finish. Choose the entire boat at CI$85/ft or the hull or topside at CI$45/ft; additional sanding is quoted separately.

What does a free test spot show?

It shows how a small area responds to the proposed correction process. This helps us explain the expected result and the work your boat needs.

What does hull-only cover?

Hull-only restoration covers the exterior from the rub rail to the waterline. Topside means the exterior above the rub rail. Any additional surfaces are discussed and quoted separately.

Is wet sanding included in the CI$85/ft price?

No. The CI$85/ft rate covers the four-step restoration. An additional sanding stage is quoted separately at the listed add-on rates, subject to inspection.

Can badly oxidised gelcoat be restored?

Some oxidised finishes respond well to compound correction and polishing; others require additional sanding or have limitations that detailing cannot resolve. An inspection and test spot help us assess your boat before promising a result.

Can decal ghosting be completely removed?

It depends on the condition and colour differences in the gelcoat. We assess the affected area and explain the expected improvement. Complete removal is not guaranteed.

How do I maintain the boat after restoration?

Our 12-Month Boat Care Plan combines full detailed washes, wax assessments, fresh wax and an annual polish and wax. Monthly washes also available.

How long will the work take?

Timing depends on the boat’s size, condition, access, weather and the correction needed. We confirm the expected duration and start dates with you after assessment.
